HISTORY
NLA is a research organization of the “Autonomous Organization of Education Nazarbayev University”, hereafter “NU”, and represents the most advanced and leading research institution in Kazakhstan. NU has been mandated to become a world-class research university, to serve as a model institution, to lead educational and scientific reforms, and to spearhead the socio-economic development of the Nation. Placing NU by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings in 2024 to the top 30% of universities in the world is an important indicator of NU’s growing prominence in the global academic and research landscape. NU emphasized its research development since its foundation, and within a year in 2010, it launched two research centers: the Energy Center and the Center for Life Sciences. Both centers were merged into one research organization by establishing NLA in 2015. Fostered by an enormous support of NU, NLA became a leading research organization in Kazakhstan. NLA plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific research and technological development within the university and in enhancing the research ecosystem in the country. NLA is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities designed to enable world-class research in its priority areas. NLA is an essential segment of the NU's broader vision to establish itself as a research powerhouse in Central Asia. Its outstanding scientists, collaborative research environment, cutting-edge facilities, and emphasis on innovation have made it a key contributor to Kazakhstan's scientific and technological development. As NU continues to invest in research and development, NLA's role is expected to grow, potentially leading to even more significant scientific contributions that will contribute substantially to the enhancement of NU’s prominence in the world.
