Laboratory of Genomic and Personalized Medicine
The mission of the laboratory is to promote genomic science and its application to advance new biomedical discoveries in Kazakhstan using the most modern methods of sequencing, bioinformatics and validation methods. The main activity of the laboratory is aimed at creating a complete basis for the development of genomic medicine - laboratory infrastructure, technical capabilities and a database of genomic knowledge.
Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology
Main scientific researches of Laboratory focused on development of new approaches of ICA application for analysis and interpretation of tumor heterogeneity, on the study of gene expression and genomic variants in cancer/normal tissues, on analysis of whole genomes/exomes of Kazakh individuals and identification of Kazakh specific genomic variants with developing national genomic reference database, on the study of differential expression in plants in different states and parts, genome organization and genetic variants of drug-resistant M.tuberculosis strains circulating in Kazakhstan, on development of bioinformatics tools implementing a machine learning approaches as applied to DNA detection and amplification technologies as well as development of novel bioinformatics tools and databases.

Research priorities
- Studying the age-related dementias (e.g. Alzheimer’s disease) in Kazakhstan: epidemiology, genetics, environmental, life-style risk factors, search for new diagnostic biomarkers and prophylactics strategies.
- Studying the molecular mechanisms of stem cells ageing and rejuvenation;
- Developing and improving methods of cell therapy for the treatment of chronic diseases and tissue regeneration
Laboratory of Microbiome
Microbiome laboratory is performing the studies on human metagenome in the Republic of Kazakhstan; development of functional foods and drugs to correct microflora, as well as developing the regulatory standard documentation; creating biobank samples of human microflora; the provision of practical healthcare, industrial and commercial enterprises by the analysis of the biological material using of advanced technologies in biomedical science; the creation of public associations: Kazakhstan Association of Human microbiome research.
Laboratory for Energy storage systems
The ultimate goal of the laboratory is to develop advanced energy storage materials, employing strategies as nanostructuring, nano/microcombination, hybridization, pore-structure control, configuration design, surface modification, and composition optimization.
Laboratory for Environmental systems
The Lab strives to make a significant contribution in research fields such as fate and transport of environmental contaminants, carbon capture and sequestration, novel water and wastewater treatment technology development with energy production, renewable energy, air quality management, energy and environmental policy.
Laboratory of Renewable Energy
The laboratory is focused on research and development of organic and perovskite solar cells. The low cost and unique properties of these devices, such as flexibility and lightness have caused a lot of attention. Currently, the lab’s researchers keep reducing the effect of rapid degradation of organic cells, increasing their efficiency and developing new high-efficiency solar cells. Inorganic solar cells based on silicon also study in the laboratory.
