On July 20 – 31, 2015 Nazarbayev University hosted the International workshop on public health for the African professionals. Scientists of the Center for Life Sciences, National Laboratory Astana (Nazarbayev University) gave lectures on the epidemiology, biomedical and public health to 24 specialists from eight African countries.
Zhaxybay Zhumadilov, director of the Center for Life Sciences, National Laboratory Astana, said: "It's the first time when we conducted a training seminar for foreign representatives. Scientists of the Center for Life Sciences as lecturers shared their knowledge and experience in the field of epidemiology, biomedical and public health, in accordance with modern requirements of global health".
TBy the end of the workshop participants would be able to apply their knowledge and skills in their respective countries.
In particular, they were taught how to conduct research in the field of epidemiology and biomedicine. The event was held in collaboration with the UN Development Program in Kazakhstan within the framework of the project “Support to Kazakhstan to deliver development assistance to countries in Africa, Oceania and the Carribean through capacity building trainings to young professionals”.
The aim of the seminar was an acquisition of systematic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of epidemiology, biomedical and public health. The seminar included lectures and workshops presented by leading professors and doctors of a private institution «National Laboratory Astana» Nazarbayev University.
The opening ceremony of the seminar was attended by representatives of the MFA, the UN Development Program in Kazakhstan, students of Botswana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
