We organize and manage research in the field of bioengineering and regenerative medicine using in vitro and in vivo approach for future clinical use.

OUR TEAM: 6 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 2 Doctors of Medicine (MD) and 6 Masters of Science (MSc)

OUR MAIN RESEARCH AREAS:

  • Development of bioengineered systems for delivery of drugs and cells, and synthesis of polymer bioconjugates, hydrogels, scaffolds for tissue regeneration and organ repair:
  • Preclinical testing of new osteophilic polymer for the treatment of bone fractures in osteoporosis and related pathologies
  • Preclinical testing of an oral form of the uricase enzyme intended for the treatment of gout
  • Preclinical testing of biologically active wound dressing designed for the treatment of skin burns and venous ulcers
  • Molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases:
  • Study the role of astrocyte senescence as a component of Alzheimer’s disease and search for potential therapeutics
  • Study risk factors as well as potential blood biomarkers in order to develop tools for early diagnosis of severe forms of age-related dementia
  • Development of new treatment strategy against ischemic brain damage based on combined application of stem cell therapy and plant polyphenols
  •  Small Molecules for Stem Cell and Drug Research:
  • Studying the molecular mechanisms of activation of aged stem cells by applying small molecules
  • Studying the efficacy of inhibiting toxic proteins secreted by ageing cells using novel small molecules
  • Development of technology based on the use of small molecules that increase the sensitivity of cancer cells to radio-chemotherapy
